Different types of acne scars
These scars form when there is a loss of tissue, creating depressions in the skin.
Ice Pick Scars:Deep, narrow, and pitted scars that look like the skin has been punctured.Often the hardest to treat.
Boxcar Scars:Broad, box-like depressions with well-defined edges.Common on the cheeks and temples.
Rolling Scars:Wavy, undulating depressions caused by damage beneath the skin's surface.Skin may look uneven or "rolling".
How Microneedling Works
A device with fine needles creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin.
This stimulates the body’s natural wound-healing response, triggering:
Collagen production
Elastin remodeling
Over time, this helps fill in and smooth out depressed scars.
Benefits for Acne Scars
Reduces depth and visibility of atrophic scars
Improves skin texture and tone
Minimally invasive with relatively low downtime
Can be safely used on most skin types
Enhances absorption of topical serums (e.g., hyaluronic acid, vitamin C)
Treatment Timeline
Most people need 3–6 sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart
Results gradually improve over 3–6 months
⚠️ Not as Effective For:
Hypertrophic or keloid scars (raised scars): these may worsen with microneedling
Active acne or skin infections (must be treated first)
